HOW DID YOU BOTH MEET?
We met in 2012 - Michael would say we met in school, we did go to the same school and we did get on the same bus together... but we didn’t speak! He found me on Facebook years later and we got chatting. We went to Pizza Hut for our first date due to me being the fussiest eater then!
TELL ME ABOUT THE PROPOSAL?
In Summer 2017 we hadn’t booked a holiday abroad due to buying our house so Michael booked us a surprise night away to Titanic Spa in Huddersfield, one of our favourite places! I was walking out of the apartment door to go for our evening meal and he called me back in and was down on one knee! The ring was beautiful, I couldn’t eat the meal properly as I couldn’t concentrate on anything!
WHAT DO YOU GUYS DO FOR A LIVING, WHAT MAKES YOU TICK, WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR FREE TIME AND WHAT'S YOUR IDEAL DAY?
I am a primary school teacher, a crazy but perfect job with little spare time around the edges and Michael is a design engineer. It works well, the rule is whoever is home first does the cooking so Michael does all the cooking!
We’re quite opposite really, Michael is calm, chilled out and easy going whereas I am super organised, busy and everything other than calm! But it works, we click well! We love to have a day out somewhere new, somewhere with good food of course and we love a holiday, we always have a holiday booked as something to look forward to. An ideal day for us would be heading to a place we haven’t been before, having a good brunch, shopping (Michael shakes his head), eating and exploring before heading home to walk the dog before have a cosy evening in watching a film!
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THE ARCHES, WHAT DID YOU LOVE ABOUT IT WHEN YOU SAW IT FOR THE FIRST TIME?
We looked around so many wedding venues, we were like serial viewers. We saw hotels, barns, halls - a bit of everything. Nothing felt right. In hotels you felt like a number not a valued person. Our criteria was important, we wanted somewhere to have the whole day and somewhere we and our guests could stay the night. We wanted a wedding where people could relax, we didn’t want a fancy day where everything was strict to timings and the dinner was posh! We wanted everyone to relax, have a drink and celebrate our day!
We visited The Arches knowing there was no accommodation but had an open mind and as soon as we walked in we knew! It was warm and welcoming, the staff were so lovely and when we shared our ideas with them they said they could accommodate it all! We could basically build our own package, do what we wanted not what a brochure said we could do. From the day of booking, the countless covid changes, to the actual day, we cannot thank The Arches enough, nothing was too much trouble for them. I found it hard to hand over control to people to do things for the day but I trusted the staff at The Arches, they know their stuff and there is no stress, it’s all ok!
TELL ME ABOUT YOUR VISION FOR THE DAY, YOU CAN GO IN TO AS MUCH DETAIL AS YOU LIKE (THEME, COLOUR SCHEMES, ATMOSPHERE, THE DRESS, THE FOOD, WHAT EXPERIENCE YOU WANTED TO GIVE YOUR GUESTS?
Choosing the dress was very exciting, I proposed to my bridesmaids two years before and we had a sneaky peek at dresses, I tried one and and knew it was the one. Not something I would’ve chosen initially but it felt just right! I thought I was going for a princess dress, quite floaty and big, but the dresses were wearing me so I went for a tight fitting fishtail style dress! 6 months later I headed back to the shop and bought the dress!
