It was fab capturing Kayleigh and James celebrating their day at the Merchant Adventurers Hall in the city of York.
The day started with me meeting Kayleigh at her hairdressers in York city centre. The weather was grey, wet and very windy.
I say quite often how surprised I am with how chilled my brides are, but Kayleigh was practically horizontal !!! She was either very good at hiding her nerves or she just has nerves of steel.
Hair styled and a few glasses of prosecco down her neck and we headed over to her mum and dads house where her bridesmaids and makeup artist were waiting giddily.
More prosecco and a gob full of eggy bread and she was ready to get in her dress…..and still no signs of nerves!!!
I asked dad to wait downstairs whilst Kayleigh and the bridesmaids did the final touchups to the dress. I love the reveal shot with the father of the bride – it’s such an emotional and proud moment to capture…dad cracked and his eyes welled up.
It was time for me to head to a tiny church in Poppelton for the ceremony.
The bridal party arrived shortly after me and all rushed inside away from the gale-force winds.
As Kayleigh walked down the aisle to her soon to be hubby I caught a glimpse of her looking at James and saw just how excited she was to be by his side. He looked pretty chuffed as well.
The church was beautiful. It was a small and dark church with light seeping through the windows, and luckily the light shone right on Kayleigh and James which enabled me to create some pretty dramatic shots.
After the ceremony we headed outside for confetti and group shots before everyone headed to the Merchant Adventurer’s Hall for the reception.
Kayleigh, James and myself decided to use this opportunity to have a walk around York city centre to grab some elopement style couples pics…hands down my favourite part of the day!!!
We walked for about 45 minutes through the streets of York, battling the busy crowds and it was so fun watching these two strut through the streets as Mr and Mrs whilst the crowds congratulated them.
I had a jacket on and the wind was freezing, I have no idea how Kayleigh didn’t get frostbite – maybe the drink and adrenaline made her invincible.
We finally arrived at the reception just in time for the meal and speeches.
I had the pleasure of Rhi Scotchbrook Photography second shooting with me, so whilst the guests were sitting down for their meal, we were downstairs setting up for the first dance…flashes at the ready we waited for the newlyweds to make their grand entrance onto the dance floor.
As a guy with 2 left feet I am always amazed to see when other men dance and dance pretty well….I have to put my hands up James, you would most likely beat me in a dance off!!
A fun filled and adventurous day was slowly coming to an end so we took the loved up couple out on the streets of York for one more pic of them in the fairy lit cobbled streets.
The perfect end to a wonderful day.
Thanks Kayleigh and James for trusting in me to capture your story x
